Each year, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) New York, the Governors Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC), & STOP DWI honors our Officers and agencies that protect our communities and work tirelessly to obtain justice for victims affected by drunk and drugged driving.

Beginning January 11, 2023, we will open up nominations for the “Annual New York State Law Enforcement Recognition Awards”. You will have the opportunity to nominate a dedicated Officer, Department/Agency, Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit, individual within a District Attorney office, Drug Recognition Expert, and/or Non-Law Enforcement Individual/Organization; that has had success in reducing impaired driving in your community from the 2022 Calendar Year: January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022 using the corresponding Nomination Forms below. The categories are as follows:

Recognition of Excellence Top Individual Award: This award recognizes the contribution of an individual law enforcement officer. The nomination is to be submitted by the agency command. More than one officer from an agency may be put forward, however, a short narrative of 4 – 5 sentences must accompany the nomination(s) or it WILL NOT be considered. Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Award: This award recognizes individuals working within Departments completing DRE Evaluations. More than one DRE from an agency may be put forward, however, a short narrative of 4 – 5 sentences must accompany the nomination(s) or it WILL NOT be considered. Please use one form per nomination. Department of The Year Agency Award: This award highlights an enforcement agencies’ efforts in deterring drunk driving. Agency command must endorse the nomination on behalf of the department. A short narrative of 4 – 5 sentences must accompany the nomination(s) or it WILL NOT be considered. Click Here To Submit A Nomination 

Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit Award: This award highlights a full-time enforcement unit’s effort in deterring drunk driving. Agency command must endorse the nomination on behalf of the enforcement unit. A short narrative of 4 – 5 sentences must accompany the nomination(s) or it WILL NOT be considered. Recognition Of Excellence District Attorney Award: This award recognizes individuals working within a District Attorney office. Vehicular Crimes Bureau Chief’s may nominate an individual for this category. More than one individual from an office may be put forward, however, a short narrative of 4 – 5 sentences must accompany the nomination(s) or it WILL NOT be considered. Recognition of Excellence Non – Law Enforcement Award: This award recognizes the contribution of non-Law Enforcement Individual or Organization. Lifetime Achievement Award: This award recognizes the contribution of an individual law enforcement officer for the Lifetime commitment to keeping the roads of New York safe from Impaired Drivers. Please include a short narrative of 4 – 5 sentences discussing the individual’s career, or it WILL NOT be considered. Click Here To Submit A Nomination 

The nomination process will run from January 11, 2023 through February 10, 2023 at 5 PM.

NO NOMINATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS TIME.

The awards will be presented on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the Albany County Center in Albany, NY.

More information will be provided to all winners and their Commanding Officers once determined.
